WordSmith

box of marquee letters

“Welcome to the Ivory Quill, let me know if there is anything I can help you find.”

With that greeting, Seshat, the store owner, left me to browse her antique letter shop. I’m in the word business, and I needed a new supply of serifs, calligraphs, blocks and gothics.

There aren’t many of us WordSmiths left. Technology has pretty much made our profession obsolete. Why have a word you can hold in your hands, feeling each curve and slate, when it can be sent directly into your Parietal lobe?

Even Libraries are closing. We are losing more words every day.

  1. Words, words! Where are you?

I am reading more lately trying to find the words. Which is why I love my visits here, to your space, of pretty pictures and lovely, smart words.

  2. I love my iPad, iPhone etc but I do like a book. I am just about to settle down to start a new one, cup of tea in hand, a couple of biscuits and my book – I’m all set for the next several hours. PS I particularly like the heading of this one – Wordsmith now there’s a word to play with.

  3. I love to settle down with a cup of coffee, pack of biscuits and a good book. Reading from a screen is not the same. I also like to write letters, the old fashioned ones you send in the post. Sadly, apart from bills, no-one writes to me.
