Home

I grew up in East Tennessee, where I lived near the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains… literally the closest place to heaven on earth. Living now in Florida, where the highest point in the entire state is only 345 feet above sea level, saying I miss the mountains is an understatement.

Whenever I get a chance to return to my roots, I simply tell people, “I’m going home.” No matter how long I’m in Florida, no matter how much I love living near the Gulf, I will always think of Tennessee as my real home state.

But…

For my children, who were 6 and 2 when we moved to the Sunshine State, Florida is the only home they truly remember. When they move away, like my daughter did when she traipsed off to North Carolina for grad school, trips home will be to the beach. Back to the emerald waters and sugar white beaches.

I’ve been lucky. I’ve lived in the best of both worlds ~ mountains and the beach. No matter where I am though, my home, my heart… is with my family, wherever that may be.

  1. I enjoyed both. I lived on St. George Island in Florida when I was a young’n, and really enjoyed my treks through the green mountains in Tennessee. There are beautiful spots to find all over the place, but I agree with you… home is where my heart is!
