Trumped up

Friday night, a friend and I have plans to attend a pep rally for 2016 presidential hopeful Donald Trump, not because I think he is a viable candidate, the man is bat-shit crazy, but because I want to see what all the hype is about him. I want to see what it is that has garnered him so much popular support.

The evening is strictly planned around the edutainment value of the event and its self-aggrandizing guest. That, and I have a Kitchen Pass for a Girls’ Night Out with my BFF.

I do NOT support Trump, nor his views, and would rather vote for a houseplant than see him in the White House. That said, I won’t be abnegating my voting rights. I’m doing my homework, and will have a well-thought-out pick once November 8, 2016 comes around.

While at the rally, I’m hoping to get some insight into what Trump is saying at these public events that resonates so deeply that his poll numbers are double-digits above the other Republican Prez wannabes.

There are inflammatory soundbites everyone has caught on the news – his stances on immigration, ObamaCare, women, and unemployment – but that can’t be all of it.

It’s disheartening to think that he represents the opinions of the Average Joe/Josephine in America, and that this support isn’t just some kind of knee-jerk reaction to situations we believe are not being addressed adequately by our legislators.

I refuse to accept that Donald Trump will actually be the GOP nominee.

The response to the event was so overwhelming that organizers moved from the original venue to accommodate more people. It’s been a long time since I’ve gone to the circus, but there should be plenty of trained elephants.
