Confession is good for the soul…

There was a time when anyone could send me (tag!!) a random meme and I would join in with abandon. My first tagging felt like an invitation to join the Cool Kid’s club. It came a few months after my initial foray into blogging and it was as if I was given a sign I had finally been accepted by my peers.

Little did I know that memes were one of those ‘acquired tastes’ phenomena like Brussels sprouts or planking. Either you love them or loath them. I loved them… I answered every one with enthusiasm and shameless honesty.

That was until I was publicly bitch slapped by another blogger for tagging her. She was definitely in the Loath camp. She called me out for being a lemming and then went on to rant about how stupid she thought these harmless little Internet chain letters and I were. (I still have nightmares…)

New policy… thank you for any meme you send my way, I really do appreciate the thought, truly I do. However, I won’t pass them on, and I probably won’t participate either. It’s nothing personal.

But…

If I come across one that I like, one that looks like something I can have fun with, I will steal it from you. I found one at Chibi Jeebs’ and Jen O.’s that I couldn’t pass up ~ 30 Days of Shamelessness.

You’ll get a month’s worth of confessions and superfluous trivia about me, and I’ll sate my irrepressible desire to over share (and fodder for my writer’s block). These won’t be posted daily, but they will come in fairly rapid succession.

Topics for discussion:

  1. declare your love for an uncool TV show.
  2. look a fool.
  3. eat. Whatever you feel like eating.
  4. waste time.
  5. declare your love for an uncool movie.
  6. act “girly” or “manly” in a way you’d normally avoid.
  7. share your efforts at something you don’t think you do well.
  8. sweat.
  9. expose something messy or dirty you’d usually hide.
  10. declare your love for an uncool band.
  11. dress to show some skin.
  12. share about a health struggle.
  13. speak up about something crap that was done to you.
  14. hold yourself accountable — not guilty — for something crappy you did to someone else.
  15. dress, walk, and act like you know you’re all that.
  16. spend money on a non-necessity or share a financial struggle.
  17. discuss the reality of your work situation.
  18. brag.
  19. share details about a bodily function or fluid.
  20. talk about sex
  21. express a strong feeling.
  22. set a boundary.
  23. air one of your secrets.
  24. share a struggle you have yet to “just get over.”
  25. ask for help.
  26. make a mistake.
  27. express a dissenting opinion.
  28. discuss a failure.
  29. look a fool.
  30. name 3 more ways you can live shamelessly and commit to doing them…

Stay tuned, it’s about to hit the fan…

  1. I don’t understand why people have to be jerks about things like memes. The alternative would be to just ignore that it was sent to you and NOT DO IT. Why go back and call the sender names? Ridiculous.

  2. Really? People do that? Can’t you just quietly ignore them (ummm wait, that’s what I do)? People people people. This one is cool though – and I like the one I’ve read so far. Apparently I need to go read some more 🙂

  3. I rarely participated in memes and if I was tagged I usually just ignored it – or thanked the person and didn’t say another word about it. I certainly wouldn’t publicly chastise someone about them, but if I was having a bad day….well, I can get a little surly.

I do like the list you have there – I hope you have a great time writing about some of these. I can totally declare love for uncool movies and bands and look a fool. I have no problems with that!

  4. A public bitch slap over a meme? Good grief. Such an exaggerated reaction makes me wonder what he or she has to hide…

Look forward to your responses to this one. I may borrow a few myself.

  5. Can’t wait – and shame on whoever bitch slapped you! Some people just don’t know a good thing when they read/see it!

  6. I always thought of a meme as a game either you participated or you didn’t. I’m sorry that when you passed it on the person was not receptive and was nasty about it. Seriously, in the virtual world who cares if you play or not. Meanwhile, I look forward to reading what you have to say – it sounds like fun.

  7. I’m similar to you with the memes. Not that I’d bitch slap someone for sending me one. Lol. I’m the same way about awards. I just don’t do them. Sweet of people and I do appreciate it, but if I have to pick someone to give an award to, then I’m going to feel bad about the many other bloggers that I couldn’t choose. So, best not to even go there.

I looked at that list. Ummm, should be interesting to read 🙂 Looking forward seeing your participation.

Oh and as for stealing a meme, I have to laugh, because I steal writing prompts all the time. I have a separate blog just for writing prompts, but I don’t participate in group writings. I know, that’s weird. It’s a “I don’t like pressure” kind of thing.
