Heart of gold

“He’s got the heart of a lion.”

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?”

“You know, that he’s über brave.”

“Sure he’d be brave it he was a lion. He could take your arm off with one bite. What does he have to be afraid of? He’s the friggin’ King of the Jungle.”

“Okay, what’s your point?”

“I’d rather have the heart of a goldfish.”

“A goldfish?”

“Yeah. A goldfish is trapped in a tiny glass house his entire life. Sometimes all alone, sometimes with other fish that are always trying to eat him, depending on outside forces to feed him, and keep his home clean and safe. It takes a lot of bravery to not go belly up.”

“I never thought of it that way.”

“Sure, it’s easy to be brave when you can take everything you want. It’s a lot harder to be brave when your life is a daily crapshoot. A goldfish keeps on swimming, keeps on being his badass goldfish self, no matter how hard his life is.”

“Wow. I’m wanna be brave like a goldfish too.”

“Dude, ain’t gonna happen.”
