An Anniversary of some significance

Today is my 26th wedding anniversary. About two weeks ago, the Mister and I also marked the anniversary of our first date. We don’t agree on when that actually was. I say it was June 3, 1983. He insists it was June 1. At this point, it doesn’t really matter, except for claiming ‘I’m right’ rights.

What does matter is that we have been a couple for more than 29 years.

Our first date was set up by our college roommates… a blind date. There hasn’t been another man in my life since that night. We were just kids. I was a few months shy of 21 and he was still a blushing teen. He would turn 20 two months after we met.

Our son is almost as old now as the Mister was then…. that makes me feel very old, and a little like a cradle robber.

I’m turning 50 in 3 months and 23 days (but who’s counting), I’ve spent 3/5ths of my life with this man. While it’s not been all unicorns and rainbows, I can say that it’s been one hell of a fun trip. I’m looking forward to the next 29 years and beyond.

There is no secret to staying together this long. The only caveat is that splitting up was never, and will never, be an option. We are in this for the long run – better or worse, sickness and health, richer or poorer.

It’s not always been easy, but it has been worth it.

Happy Anniversary Baby…
