Late in the afternoon at my July 4th family reunion, we joined in a new tradition… a balloon release.
Red, white and blue helium balloons, each representing a loved one who has passed away, were loosed, as we said good-byes to grandparents, mothers and fathers, aunts and uncles, sisters, brothers, cousins and friends.
It was good to reconnect with my family this weekend. To see all my cousins and now their children and grandchildren. Visiting with my aunts and uncles who I haven’t seen in years, and to show off my son and brag about my daughter with people who are as excited about their good news as I am.
That’s what’s great about family, when they ask ‘how’re ya doing” they really want to know.
There were lots of hugs, lots of laughter, lots and lots of food, and lots of shared memories. I’m so glad I came, and wonder why I wait so long between return trips.
It was good to come home. I may have to chat up the Mister when I get back to Florida about moving back this way. You never know, it could happen…
That is an awesome tradition and I love it. I am glad that you had such a great time this weekend with K and your family– sometimes all we need is a little family time!
