100 Word Challenge: Family

peeled green apples

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day in the U.S. If I was hosting a typical feast, I would have already prepped most of the dishes I would serve. I would bake the ham and start brining the turkey. Pies would be in the oven and rolls waiting in the fridge

(I’m still baking an apple pie, but I’ll leave that one home for later.)

I don’t have to do all that this year. My daughter bought her first house this past spring and she wants to be feast hostess this year. I am more than happy to pass down the apron.

There will be turkey and ham, sweet potatoes, stuffing and green casserole, rolls and a few other new dishes my daughter wants to add to the menu- to begin her own traditions.

Without the stress of planning and executing a multi-course meal, including several different desserts, I won’t know what to do with myself. There will also be a drastically reduced amount of dirty dishes for me to wash, which is something I definitely won’t miss.

The thing that will be the same is being with family and friends, good food, good fun, afternoon naps, and maybe a football game… or two.

We all have somebody that sits down at the Thanksgiving table and says the most outrageous things, and you’re doin’ the dishes with your sister, and you’re like, ‘Omigod, can you believe she said that?’” Vicki Lawrence

This week’s word is:

Family

What to do:

Using “family” for inspiration, write 100 Words – 100 exactly – no more, no less. You can either use the word – or any form of the word – as one of your 100, or it can be implied. Include a link in your post back here, and add your story to the Mister Linky list. If you don’t have a blog, you can leave your submission in the comment section, or as a Facebook status post. Remember to keep spreading the love with supportive comments for your fellow Wordsters.
