They serve as a reminder that life is not easy
It is not safe to dip your toe in the water
Don’t venture out too deep
There are leviathan and krakens
Lying in wait, ready to carry you into the fathomless abyss
Whales to swallow you whole
Sharks to eat you alive
It is not safe when you are out of your depth
Stay in the shallows where it is undemanding
There are no rip currents to drag you under
No eddies disorienting you, turning you in all directions
Float on the slack tides, where all tension ceases
Away from danger, away from uncertainty
The farther from shore, the murkier the waters
It is not safe to swim alone
The sea always keeps her secrets
It’s hard to listen to “dive in” when you know that it’s not always safe to just do it. This was written as an ode to that hesitation.

Thank you Kir, it’s comforting to know that you “get me” when I get all philosophical.

This is when I wish we lived close enough to sit out on the patio and just “talk”. (With cocktails)
