Frogs and locust

A friend joined me for this week’s photo hike. She had just moved back to town after being away for almost a year. I’ve missed her terribly, and am ecstatic that she’s living close again. We’re making plans to kayak next weekend.

We drove over to Panama City, and I showed her Camp Helen State Park. While walking the nature trails, we saw hundreds of tiny frogs. At one point, it looked like the trail mulch was moving there were so many of them. I made a joke about a plague of frogs and all we needed was the swarm of locust… about that time one buzzed past us.

I may have to rethink my solitary hikes. It was nice to have a companion who I can have a conversation with and who enjoys nature as much as I do.

  1. What a beautiful glimpse of your nature walk! Walks with friends are always a nice treat.
    Happy Sunday!

P.S. My daughter loves to collect the shells locusts (secadas) leave behind.

  2. I found some tiny baby frogs at a pond near me but getting shots of the was impossible as they were exactly the same colour of the ground so they just looked like part of the path.

    1. My part of Florida is very different than what is typically Florida… that image that is shown in movies and on TV. We have gorgeous beaches, but the rural areas are often heavily wooded.

  3. And I love the froggies and locusts. I would say that both the solitary hikes and the ones with friends have their benefits for you. And with a friend in the area, now you don’t have to pick! You can choose whichever you want.

  4. When the kids and I take walks around our neighborhood you can here the locusts. They are so loud! They are probably loving my yard since I am surrounded by frogs at my pond.
Gorgeous shots you took. How wonderful your friend shared the day with you too!
