Christmas past memories

advent

Years ago, I made my children an Advent calendar. Finding the right trinkets to fill each pocket took three months. We don’t put the calendar out anymore. Christmas, apparently, is for little kids.

The Trifextra challenge for this weekend: 33 words on “your feelings about the holidays”

  1. The M~A~G~I~C of Christmas resides in tiny sticky fingers grasping for the next package from the pile amid “oohs” and “aahs.”

As adults . . . most of the M~A~G~I~C is missing. Probably because we see the bills, and have to entertain the troops, and already have MORE than ENOUGH.

  2. I think this is the last year my sixteen, almost seventeen, tear old will act like she cares about Christmas. Even the two younger ones are starting to act more “grown up” about it.

    It is kind of sad.

  3. I remember you writing about the Advent calendar in years past. Ours wasn’t quite as elaborate as yours. Our calendar is just a felt Christmas tree on a burlap backing and little felt ornaments for each day of the month through Christmas. The kids used to love taking a turn putting on each day’s ornament. But a couple of them have been lost over the years and now we no longer use ours either.

  4. So much love went into that Calendar! It’s wonderful. I have noticed that Christmas is more just going through the motions now. Maybe because there’s so much excess everywhere it’s hard to make something liked Christmas really special. 😀

  5. Christmas is indeed for little kids.

We still celebrate it, it’s just that we’ve become a little more apathetic about it. In fact, we’ll probably have to wait for my family to arrive to open them.

My mom has a strict idea of when and what to do on christmas. I haven’t ripped open presents fresh in the morning since I was little.

There have been times when I missed those days. We’re not allowed to have an impulsive christmas.
