Welcome respite

Started my day off not long after daybreak, making my way into town to execute my civic duty. Our early voting precincts opened Saturday, and I was among the first wave of voters there to cast my ballot in the 2012 Presidential Election.

Afterwards, I kept close to home, looking for places to photograph that I may have neglected lately.

I found a new dog park nearby, which also had a lovely trail wending around a small lake. I need to take my Dog-Child, Hershey, back soon to see if she likes it too.

It was a bit overcast and nippy Saturday morning, and I was grateful to find the beach deserted. Unlike my last few weekends where promises of snakes and gators were dashed, when I walked up the trail to the Gulf, I could see dolphins playing offshore. I know… I know… if there are no photos, then it didn’t happen. But, I was so enthralled with watching them, I simply ‘forgot’ to capture the moment. (Actually, I’m selfish, and didn’t want to share.)

Still, the empty beach was lovely, and the quiet and solitude was a welcome respite.

  1. Beautiful photos!

We went to the beach yesterday to watch the waves. It was warm (in the 70’s ~ we must be farther south in Florida than you) but the wind was fierce and the sand stung our bare egs. The Gulf, normally placid, looked positively angry as it churned away. We didn’t stay long.

The beach was much less populated than usual . . . but there were pockets of people braving the wind and stinging sands. Not many in swimming though . . . with TWO RED FLAGS at the lifeguard stand.

  2. That deserted beach is gorgeous. I’m wondering what temperature you are calling “nippy” – – – we’re at 25 F this morning and I’m loving it!

Of course I’m not out WALKING in it either.

  3. I am tired of the rancor and righteous attitudes that I am encountering this election cycle. Is no one else’s opinion viable? Far better, isn’t it to contemplate dolphins and a deserted beach.

  4. Oh dolphins! We saw them off the shore in Charleston as well. It was the first time in all of the years we have been visiting. We didn’t get any pictures either.

  5. Beautiful! I love the two shots with the path (creek) in the middle. I so want to travel down that path and see where it leads!

  6. I don’t blame you for not wanting to share the dolphins. It is such a special treat whenever we’re able to catch a quick glance of their frolicking here on the Jersey shore.
