One bad apple

An apple a day
Feeds my Internet habit
This one is rotten

Haiku Friday is hosted by Lou at LouCeeL.

My poor, little, 5-year-old Apple MacBook is slowly, and painfully dying. She was ill last winter and underwent some lengthy rehab, but this time, I think she not long for this world. It makes me sad, and more than a little panic-y.

I do have my daughter’s laptop, the one she had in high school. The one that has none of my photo files loaded, only a small handful of bookmarks, and no email access, that I can limp along on for the time being. The family computer, while boasting a lovely 27-inch monitor, is housed in a confining roll-top desk that does not fit well on my lap.

Due to more pressing details, like household bills, medical expenses, car repairs, and other ad nauseam accounts payable, getting a new toy isn’t something that will happen any time soon.

I know, first world problems…

  1. Oh, I’m so sorry to hear this. Us bloggers need our computers to feel connected and the thought of losing that connection would make me very panicky too! I hope yours hangs on … or that you win the lottery so you can buy a new one!

  2. OH. OUCH. BAD COMPUTER. I feel like bowing my head or something. The poem was perfect, the language just right, but the sentiment of it, the reality is ummmm, to use your word: Rotten. 😦

  3. What I love about Patti is that she knows me so well – or at Ieast, that we think so much alike. was going to suggest an external drive to backup your system – but I don’t know how thin financial resources are. Assuming you have a network at home, is there space on your Desktop system where you could temporarily store your photo files?

    1. Hopefully, the system was set up correctly to back-up automatically, but I still need to assure myself that I won’t lose all those photo files.

  4. I know you have heard this before and if I know our friend Lou, you will hear it again, but back up your files (if you haven’t already)! Do it now before it’s too late. The idea of you losing all those wonderful photographs to a case of Apple rot is just horrifying,

My desktop, home to all my writing files and photographs, died suddenly last December. No warning, just an abrupt “blue screen of death.” I was lucky, I have a computer guy who was able to get my files off. I didn’t buy a new computer (I’m using a little laptop), but I immediately went out and bought an external hard drive.

    1. The last time this happened, the hubs set it up so my files backed up automatically onto our main hard drive. I trust that it’s been working, but I really should double check that… and soon.
