Basic training

You really should start dating again. I know some great guys. I could hook you up.”

“We’ve talked about this, I’m fine.”

Aren’t you lonely? You’re too young to be by yourself.”

“Just because I’m alone, doesn’t mean I’m lonely.”

Don’t you miss… you know?

“Sure, I miss… the intimacy, but I can’t…”

I can’t believe you’re being so inhibited. The sexual taboos of our 20s don’t apply now that we’re in our 50s.

“I’m not being inhibited, I’m being pragmatic. I don’t want to break in a new lover, and we won’t even talk about having to get naked!”

The 100 Word Challenge, a writing prompt created by Velvet Verbosity, takes a single theme to tell a story in only 100 words ~ no more, no less. This week’s theme is ‘Inhibited.’

  1. hahahaha. I wondered how you would tackle this one 😉 Excellent job. And honestly, the “breaking in a new lover” thing holds true with someone even in their late 20s. I mean, seriously, who wants to go through all that work for a little sex? 😉

  2. But isn’t breaking in a new lover the exciting part? The ‘new’ part? Isn’t it the “Oh Baby, a little to the left and you’ve got it” part that makes the process of discovery so much fun?

    But I love this piece.

And you’re not bad at dialog pieces either, I see.

  3. “Break in a new lover” makes me laugh…for several reasons. Very relatable and very natural conservation. I had it in my mid 30s.

    good job
