I took advantage of the beautiful weather to day-trip to Pensacola. While there I went to Bay Bluff Park, an 800-foot wooden boardwalk that runs parallel with a CSX rail line along Escambia Bay. When you’re walking it on a hot day, it feels more than 5 miles.
Then I headed to Big Lagoon State Park where I enjoyed a picnic lunch – a deli sandwich from Apple Market. I was in short sleeves and wishing that I had brought a beach blanket to enjoy the warm day.
My menfolk don’t find old cemeteries as intriguing as I do, so I have to visit them while on my weekend photo walkabouts. My final destination was St. Michael’s, officially assigned by the King of Spain in 1807, making it one of the oldest cemeteries in Florida. I was glad to see several workmen there refurbishing the stones and crypts. It’s a fascinating place, and is the final rest for many of Pensacola’s historical figures.

Amazing photos. I find walking through old cemeteries fascinating but often really depressing. The ‘Dear Mother’ photo is beautiful but makes me feel sad. Must go back and look at the beautiful scenery again as a distraction.

I love cemeteries. LOVE them – as they fascinate me so much. Seeing the gravestone with “Dear Mother” on it that is fading and crumbling just breaks my heart. Glad to hear there were stones being refurbished.

Great shots. I find old cemeteries fascinating too. Especially the sayings they sometimes had engraved on the markers.

I love Pensacola! As a former New Orleanian, I considered Pensacola to be in my backyard. And the grave shots are outstanding. I took some pictures in Old Metairie Cemetery a few years ago, and I made a photo book of them because I loved them so much.

Love your pictures! My in-laws live on the Milton side of Escambia Bay. If you had turned your camera to the other side you probably could have seen their house. Very cool!
