I took advantage of the beautiful weather to day-trip to Pensacola. While there I went to Bay Bluff Park, an 800-foot wooden boardwalk that runs parallel with a CSX rail line along Escambia Bay. When you’re walking it on a hot day, it feels more than 5 miles.
Then I headed to Big Lagoon State Park where I enjoyed a picnic lunch – a deli sandwich from Apple Market. I was in short sleeves and wishing that I had brought a beach blanket to enjoy the warm day.
My menfolk don’t find old cemeteries as intriguing as I do, so I have to visit them while on my weekend photo walkabouts. My final destination was St. Michael’s, officially assigned by the King of Spain in 1807, making it one of the oldest cemeteries in Florida. I was glad to see several workmen there refurbishing the stones and crypts. It’s a fascinating place, and is the final rest for many of Pensacola’s historical figures.

The colors in your photos are so rich and beautiful. And the “Mother” headstone gave me pause– It’s so simple and sad and loving all at the same time. Thanks for sharing and HAppy SIMC, jj
