100 Word Challenge: Challenge

A little update on the knee surgery rehab progress…. I appreciate that this is all uninspiring to some of ya’ll but it’s new to me, so here it is.

I met my surgeon Monday for my 6-week post-op follow-up. Prior to my appointment with him, I had also had a session with my physical therapist. During that session, I had recorded a 124-degree bend in the new knee and 0-degrees straightened. That was my personal best and I was excited to take those numbers with me.

The doc told me he was happy with my status, and that I was even a little above the curve… finally! Someone actually said it. *deep sigh of relief*

He said that it can take a full year after surgery to get complete, full-range of motion back. I’m still going to have that as my goal. (That’s about a 135-degree bend.)

When you think about it, and I have avoided any deliberate imagining of the surgery and what it entailed because it truly is on the verge of gruesome, having that much mobility and range of motion after only six weeks is pretty good.

I have been given the go-ahead to end my out-patient therapy and continue rehabbing on my own. I’ll finish out the week then, sign off on any more therapy sessions.

I can drive, walk distances, and ride my bike. I have a list of stretches and exercises to keep doing and my handy dandy ice bags and heating pad for recovery purposes. I’m ready for this next phase of recovery.

My next follow up with my surgeon is one year from now. I fully expect to be completely back to normal by then, if not better.

I’ve been motivated by overcoming challenge and overcoming the hurdles and obstacles that face me. There still is plenty out there to get motivated.“ ~ Andre Agassi

This week’s word is:

Challenge

What to do:

Using “challenge” for inspiration, write 100 Words – 100 exactly – no more, no less. You can either use the word – or any form of the word – as one of your 100, or it can be implied. Include a link in your post back here, and add your story to the Mister Linky list. If you don’t have a blog, you can leave your submission in the comment section, or as a Facebook status post. Remember to keep spreading the love with supportive comments for your fellow Wordsters.

  1. I was about to say something about success being the ability to rise from a seat lower than your knees (read public restroom “convenience”) without using your hands, but that would be a lie. It”‘s been four years for me know, and I still congratulate myself when I do that.
