White stag

whitewashed wooden deer

“A pale hart, as white as a full moon, rears on its hind legs, trumpeting his arrival. A messenger from the netherworld, bringing a dire warning to sinners.”

I could only stare at him, and sadly shake my head.

“Seriously, that’s the best you can do?”

“This is a majestic, mythological beast.” He made a flamboyant gesture – a wide, sweeping flourish with both hands around the wooden, whitewashed deer.

With an audible sigh I walked away, searching the antique shop for a more appropriate mantle piece. Stopping mid-stride, I called over my shoulder.

“I suppose my sin is blasphemy?”

    1. My son and I love perusing antique shops and thrift stores. I am always taking photos of interesting objects to use in my stories. The hart was one of those thrift store finds.
