I blatantly inspect his table manners.
Are his elbows on the table? Does he ham-fist his fork? Does he cut his food into manageable pieces, or just cram chunks in his mouth? Does he talk with his mouth full? Is his napkin on his lap, or tucked under his chin? Does he even use a napkin?
Did he hold her chair for her when she sat down? Is he polite, or a boor?
All these things must be taken into account when taking the measure of a man.
Not just anyone is good enough for my daughter.

I love how you used Vel’s word. Inspect is like a weapon, here. And I also will never accept any guy for my daughter(s).

Ah, the future mother in law? This may explain a little of her daughter’s personality, but I can’t say I blame her all that much for caring about table manners.

This piece wasn’t for Voice Week, but I could see how a helicopter mom could be overprotective.

One feels rather helpless at times like these. You just have to trust your daughter has a good head on her shoulders.

Part of the reluctance is admitting that our babies are all grown up.

That too, but the decisions they make now will affect all of us for a long time.

Ha! Daddy goes into covert operations. I could picture him hiding behind a palm tree at the restaurant 😉
