Our Mabel

gravestone

In a family full of rowdy boys, she was our little angel. Never a whimper, or complaint, she always smiled. Tiny from birth, she looked like a porcelain doll, our perfect little lady. We thought she was the answer to our prayers. We didn’t realize the answer instead was, “no.”

    1. Thank you, Leslie for your concern. Please note that this short piece was fiction, and not a personal event in my life. The stone is located in a historic cemetery in Pensacola, and dates to the late 1800s.

      1. Thought the stone looked rather aged. I’m glad it wasn’t a personal loss. I remember the grave site of Chopin in Pere Le Chase cemetery in Paris. It was of a beautiful woman in a thoughtful pose. Love letters were tucked into her hand. These were recent letters too.

        1. This cemetery is one of my favorite spots in Pensacola. There are families interred there dating prior to the founding of the city. It is beautiful.
