A dusky figure cuts through the roiling waves, smooth and soundless as an assassin’s blade. White peaks swell, cresting sharp and jagged, an ocean of broken shards of smoky glass.
Beneath the maelstrom, ancient creatures lurk, patrolling the still, dark waters for obliging prey. The smell of fear is sweet, seducing the monster onward. Death, a tingle of expectation, crackles across rip tides.
Pride and ignorance buoy tender morsels, their limbs pale beacons lighting the way for the hungry beasts, stirring emotions of loathing. Swirling eddies churn the bloody chum, drawing in more monsters to the feeding frenzy.
Hate destroys.

I can’t decide whether or not I like the last line, but the rest of it is so full of wonderful foreboding, it doesn’t even matter.

I always enjoy how your love and respect for nature seeps into almost everything that you write, it made this all the more powerful reading. Sometimes you make me laugh, or make me think, and sometimes (like here) you blow my mind. Well done.

AWESOME
Yeah, the last two word line rules but how you built the suspense, described the wave(s) and took me to the emotional crescendo was tight and tense. Loved it.
