Happily ever after isn’t just finding your Prince Charming or Cinderella. It’s writing your own fairytale filled with wicked witches and ogres, magic spells and coins in a fountain wishes.
It’s getting lost in a frightening enchanted forest, and finding your way out together.
Happily ever after is transformation, it’s a Holy Grail quest for elusive answers, it’s fighting dragons and triumphing over evil.
There will be story twists and plot changes. There will be antagonists that make Queen Grimhilde look like Mother of the Year, and unexpected heroes who come riding to the rescue when all seems hopeless.
Happily ever after is what you make it, it’s not fantasy… it’s mythically hard work.

Thank you so much for sharing (and writing) this piece! I can’t stand the misleading fantasy of some fairy tales (http://katybkatydidnot.blogspot.com/2012/03/i-hate-tiaras.html) but love that you’ve contrasted the stereotypical “happily every after” with possible plot twists. And especially at the hands of a competent creator. Very cool!
