And so it was, as the sun charioted across the sky, sinking below the horizon in a maelstrom of color, and the pale shore birds, in contrast, waded in the quiet surf, nibbling sweet mussels burrowing into the wet sand, that she revisited her life.
The events that made up her time on earth, bringing to mind images of people she met, and their role in creating who and what she was, rewound through her memories.
Would her legacy be vainglorious like a sunset, or unpretentious as a snowy ibis. Would she be satisfied with the remains of her days?

Lovely. Two things come to mind. One, the book “Tuesdays with Morrie”, and two, the Buddhist practice of meditating for months in the charnel grounds. It seems we should be taught to contemplate regularly our death, as it can come at any moment, and will we be ready?
