In the city where I live, we have wide, green municipal right-of-ways. We also have twice a week garbage pick up (from large, rolling, lidded cans). We can call Public Works to have large items ~ white goods, construction debris, old furniture ~ picked up within 24 hours. There are brush trucks that come by weekly to get yard waste. It’s a nice, neat little town.
There are also people who feel that they’re excluded from city laws, and leave their household junk on those right-of-ways. That they can’t wait a few days to have it hauled away, so they make the whole neighborhood look trashy but letting it sit, sometimes for more than a week, on community greens. Often mere feet from signs regarding illegal dumping.
Pisses me off. I have called the city to report illegal dumping, and if I could get photos of these people, car tags, addresses, don’t doubt for a second I wouldn’t turn them in.

That drives me CRAZY.
In the town where the salon where I work is located, residents have to pay for trash pick-up by the trash can. We often will see people drive up behind the salon in private cars and trucks and then start throwing THEIR TRASH into the dumpster which the building owner pays for. My boss runs out there every time and reads them the riot act, and has even called the police before. It’s especially bad after Christmas, what with all the packaging trash. People are rude.

Oh I hate that!! ITs a sense of entitlement. Who cares if I do it, just as long as you don’t.
For awhile, there was an open lot here that people were illegally dumping on, and the owners were having to pay have the crap hauled off. They did a huge expose on it and busted a lot of people who went, “Oh I saw someone else do it, so I figured it was okay.” UGH!!!

Boy do I hear you Tara. The eyesores that I’ve seen in some of our alleys are appalling. I’ve often cleaned out old household items, or junk from my garage….but I try to take it out right before the garbagemen come for pick-up if at all possible. I usually keep these things piled in my garage until the proper time. The amazing thing is…many of these things don’t even make it to the garbage collectors….many times they are snatched up by people who drive up and down the alleys just hoping to find this kind of stuff. ~Joy

The excluded from laws people abound. They want YOU to follow all the rules, but they see those same rules as merely annoying, unnec. suggestions that do not pertain to their higher existence.

Oh Tara, I hate that. Out here so many groups have to adopt portions of freeway to keep our area scenic. And, the local dumps are free, near the freeways and not so far apart.
Sidenote – Chateua is one of the themes in my “finalists” for my blog redo. Your use of it is lovely and (only just noticed it’s your theme).I’ve narrowed to about 5 of the the newer themes. Trying them out – want them to work seemlessly from Word (that’s knocking 2011 out).

Ugh, how annoying. Kinda like how our community recently installed entry gates but some of our neighbors’ dumb ass friends simply climb over it to get in.

Oooh, that’s bad. I once had to stop a neighbor who drove his riding mower from 2 blocks away to dump his clippings on a vacant lot across from my house. In spite of the signs on it that begged people not to trash the lot.

Most of the people in my neighborhood are good about their garbage and only put it out the night before the garbage is picked up – which typically happens at 5am! But the one lady across from us… she’s a little old lady… she puts her trash out for the designated time, but then, the day after, she has another bag of trash out that stays there until pick up days. And the weird thing is? It’s in a bag, but clearly, there are large boxes in the bag! My husband has said, “Makes me want to find out what’s in it… just a weird shape!” Lol But no, we don’t dumpster dive!
