Showing some skin

I’m the first to admit that I’m not much of a frou-frou girl. I’m most comfortable in jeans and T-shirts, sneakers and a ball cap. I rarely wear dresses, and hate putting on make-up. There is no effort to glam up. Even when I go out with my family, unless it’s a special occasion, you get the unvarnished me.

That also means there is little to no landscaping… get your mind out of the gutter. I meant my legs. I hate to shave.. hate it, avoid it as long as I can. I am, however, marginally vain enough to prune the stubble if I am wearing shorts or a skirt in public. Wouldn’t want to scare the children.

When I go on my photo hikes, I wear shorts. It’s far too hot in the spring and summer to don my omnipresent jeans. That also means, at least once a week, the razor comes out and my legs are shorn of hair. At least from the hem of my shorts down.

Oddly, having smooth skin is preferable to the prickly hairs, but aside from that, I’m just too plain lazy for the upkeep. I have half-way decent looking legs, you’d think I’d use that to my greatest advantage. Still, too lazy.

I probably should make more of an effort to be ‘girly.’ I’m sure that the Mister would appreciate not having to endure the sandpaper treatment. He really is a saint. I wonder if he ever wishes he married a frou-frou girl.

Day 6 – 30 Days of Shamelessness: act “girly” or “manly” in a way you’d normally avoid.

  1. I’m not a big fan of shorts either, I would much rather wear jeans myself. However, I am big fan of smooth skin and as such I shave daily, yes even in the winter. I don’t do it for anyone but me, it just makes me feel better, a little more girly.

  2. What’s this shaving, thing?? I can’t remember the last time I did…=/ I’m blaming it on too many kids, but really…I’m lazy. I’d rather be doing something else then spend “X” amount of time hunched over in the shower.

  3. So. The gutter comment was directed at me, right? Well, I deserved it. Know thine audience, I always say. Anyway. I love the ‘unvarnished you’. i wouldn’t have it any other way.

  4. It seemed like after I got married, the need to shave my legs went out the door, along with the need to wear makeup. But here lately, (since surgery & the weight loss) I have been forcing myself to get up every am early enough to put on the war paint and shower daily (instead of at night) in order to primp my hair and shave my legs. At first it sucked but now that I am into a routine, I love it. I don’t always wear a lot, and I don’t always shave my legs, but I am definitely getting there 😉

    1. I definitely put a lot more effort into my appearance when I was working in an office. I guess at this point, I just don’t see the need to primp. I probably would feel better if I got back into the routine though.

  5. DItto. I remember when I was on the high school swim team my freshman year, I hated being told I shouldn’t shave for a few months leading up to the big conference meet at the end of the season. The horror! Ha. It only took a year before I found that to be the most freeing time of the season, which I now recreate every fall (and winter, spring and occasionally summer)!

  6. I don’t like dresses either. My husband wants me to wear them, because he says I look good in dresses, but I’m not a frilly girl either. Make up – just base and a very light touch of lipstick (husband likes that it’s not much make-up). And I can’t stand to shave, but I will.. for him. Lol. Don’t want to scare the hubby away 😉
