Empty chairs at school assemblies, no scrawled ‘love Daddy’ on unsent birthday cards. Carrie was used to it, but Cam was too young to remember him. He couldn’t miss what he never had.
She’d always been there for him. Reading bedtime stories, conquering bullies and the bogieman. That’s what big sisters do.
Mom was useless after Dad left. Parading through a freak show of men who never stayed long.
Carrie needed Cam now. There was no one else to ask, no one who could help.
“It would be an honor to give you away, Sis. That’s what little brothers do.”
The 100 Word Challenge, a writing prompt created by Velvet Verbosity, takes a single theme to tell a story in only 100 words ~ no more, no less. This week’s theme is ‘Honor.’
I agree with June. I love when things aren’t revealed until the last sentence. Imagine! Creating suspense in just 100 words!

Beautiful. Sigh.

Very sweet and full of emotion. However as an older sister to a younger brother, I have to admit that the last line made me laugh.
