Tangled in a thin blanket, she retreated to the couch, curling tightly around her heart, protecting what faint beating of life still remained. Crippled by his betrayal, she felt herself slowly slipping away.
Hours bled into days. Sweet dreams turned sour. Touching her face where his kisses once caressed, a tear slid down her cheek.
Rising from the couch, she draped the blanket around her shoulders like a superhero’s cape. Flying free from her pain, she was invincible.
The 100 Word Challenge, a writing prompt created by Velvet Verbosity, takes a single theme to tell a story in only 100 words ~ no more, no less. This week’s theme is ‘Invincible.’
What a painful scene! I love that you gave her power in the end!

I work for an agency that helps women who are SUPER heroes each in her own way. Sadly, most of my involvement is with the men who caused their victims to curl tightly around their hearts. Sometimes I see changes made by the batterers – more often I see positive changes in the super heroes. Thanks for capturing that.
