Sunday is a very special day at our house and no, it’s not because of the Super Bowl. None of the teams I cheer for made it through the playoffs… bygones.
No, Feb. 2 is the 7th anniversary of bringing home my little Lab, my little Misfit Toy, Asta – her adoption day.
She had a rough time at first, recovering from both being abandoned by her first family and recovering from major surgery after being struck by a car. She then had to endure months of rehab, and more surgery before she could finally heal.
Today, you can’t even tell she started out with a limp and a metal pin in her leg. Sometimes she will jump up from her bed like she’s been shocked, we think maybe it’s some residual internal scarring (I get that same feeling sometimes in my bionic knee). For the most part though, she is just a normal, pudgy, shamefully spoiled, lap dog.
She loves snuggling, doggy kisses, going on long walks, swimming in the bayou, eating, napping, snarfing, twerking (no, seriously, the girl has some moves), keeping me company while I read or write, riotously barking at every knock at the front door. and riding in cars with boys.
To celebrate Asta’s special day, we’ll probably take a long walk at a nearby state park, let her splash around on the bayou shore, stop for a plain hamburger then nap the remainder of the afternoon.
Life of a dog is hard work.
Happy Forever Day, Asta. We love you.
My idea of absolute happiness is to be in bed on a rainy day, with my blankie, my cat, and my dog. Anne Lamott
This week’s word is:
Spoil
What to do:
Using “spoil” for inspiration, write 100 Words – 100 exactly – no more, no less. You can either use the word – or any form of the word – as one of your 100, or it can be implied. Include a link in your post back here, and add your story to the Mister Linky list. If you don’t have a blog, you can leave your submission in the comment section, or as a Facebook status post. Remember to keep spreading the love with supportive comments for your fellow Wordsters.
Reminder! Submission days have changed. You have until next Friday to submit your Challenge entry.

Asta definitely got a lucky home here. Spoiled fur babies are the best.

I’m with you and Anne in being perfectly content to huddle up with the fur babes instead of that ol’ foosball! But as a former Kansas Citian, I do hope the Chiefs win this weekend.
