100 Word Challenge: Calm

It’s been two weeks since I’ve posted, maybe longer, I don’t know… time has practically come to a stop.

Our home computer is still fried and we don’t know how much longer until it’s fixed, or if it can be fixed. There has been mention of a bad circuit board. The hard drive is currently on life support and we’re not sure we can retrieve anything from it.

Luckily, we did back up the data, at least through the end of September so only a few weeks are iffy.

It may, and possibly will, turn out to be more costly to repair than to actually buy a new machine.

The only working computer is my laptop and it’s been working overtime. And, I’ve been in online limbo.

A update synopsis:

Thanksgiving came and went. Our daughter played hostess. All the food, none of the clean up. We even got to take home an abundance of leftovers. Win/win.

Our son began a new job, a job that pays substantially more than his prior job. It is a job that offers room for growth, full benefits, and most importantly job security. It’s one of those “waiting for the other shoe to drop” sort of events. I risk jinxing it just mentioning it here and I’ve made clear my fear of jinxing. I’m gonna risk it because I am so incredibly proud of our son. (He was joined the US Postal Service.)

Our daughter’s new business is doing great. She continues to add new clients and the ones she has are giving her amazing references. I’m not surprised by her success, she is a force of nature. We are incredibly proud of her too. (She started her own event production/management company.)

Beyond the crashed computer… our dryer has died, stranding two loads of wet clothes. Despite being well over 20 years old, having had four drive belts replaced, its heat sensor changed, and its timer also replaced, Mister wants to attempt reviving the Old Girl. I’m all for taking advantage of end-of-year sales. We’ll see who wins this stand off.

There are only three weeks until Christmas and I’m no where near ready. (It is also only four weeks until 2020 and I’m definitely not ready for that.)

We made it to December before cranking on the furnace, but it will be back in the 60s and 70s next week, so it won’t be running long. Florida is very weird in wintertime. One day I’ll be in long sleeves and wearing a jacket, and two days later in a T-shirt and wearing flip-flops. It’s a Jekyll and Hyde weather existence.

I don’t remember any other year that ended with such a disparity of events. I would be happier with just a calm passing of the decade.

Calm

What to do:

Using “calm” for inspiration, write 100 Words – 100 exactly – no more, no less. You can either use the word – or any form of the word – as one of your 100, or it can be implied.
