Grey rain

Rain made the whole world a dreary blur, only shades of light and dark bled through the gloaming.

The bridge was long and narrow, only wide enough for two cars. Either side of the span was a grey nothingness, behind me the sky fell to earth. Ahead was as uncertain, the greyness reaching out with hungry fingers. Only the oncoming lights were evidence of something abiding in the gloom.

I was lost in the in-between – too afraid to turn back, too faltering to move forward.

Perhaps it wasn’t the rain that clouded my thinking. Maybe it was my tears.
