Every year, thousands of would-be authors tackle the task of writing novels during the month of November. The goal is to pen 50,000 words in 30 days. I’ve done it three times, but you’ll never find the tomes in your local bookstores, nor are there any ebooks. I don’t think I’ve even read them again since finishing each challenge. I completed a NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) in August, and it was surprisingly easy because I had a plan.
I passed on last year’s NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), and I’ll pass again this year. I’ve started a couple long-form stories, and according to the rules, counting any words written done before the start date is verboten. I just can’t take all the pressure! Naw, it’s really more that I just don’t have any original ideas to work on, and I want to focus on those story lines I’ve already started.
My plan for this month – in conjunction with BlogHer’s November NaBloPoMo, and a much neglected profile page at Grace in Small Things – is to post a short list of gratitude each day of November. It may sometimes just be a photo.
There are so many things that make me happy, that strengthen me, that make me a better person, but I don’t acknowledge those things and people often enough. On my retired blog, If Mom Says OK, I began the 365 Days of Grace, but that ended when my site did. I need to start it again, and what better time than Thanksgiving month.
