Left to weather the years untended, scrub and cedar saplings have taken over the church yard. The spindly fence surrounding the garden teeters at the verge of collapse, barely holding back the spirits cradled inside.
Sometimes, late in the evening, betwixt the flickering stars and the waning moon, a mournful keening weaves its way up from the stones. Pushing against the wooden slats, straining for release, the bound spirits are never unable to break free.
New neighbors, primed to clear the unsightly lot, worked to strip away the aged stockade, naively removing the only barrier to the malevolent presence.

I agree with Alyssa…your words flow like beautifully written poetry, and your photography is inspiring. A perfect combo.

A great take on the prompt. I loved the suspense you created and then leaving us to imagine just what awful things would happen now the fence was gone.

That was chilling. The piece was laid out like prose but it had the condensed beauty of poetry. Lyssa M x

And I thought they fenced churchyards because people were dying to get in!
Well done.

You use words so well to convey the scene – really evocative and suitably chilling.
