Bas relief

ripple in sand

Neap tides and a vacant beach leave the shore smooth and flawless. There are no creatures lingering to mar pristine sands, only the wash of seawater receding back to the ocean.

A tidal pool, its brine emptied by a searing sun, reveals a bas-relief of bygone waves. Embossed by motion and power, crystalline quartz shimmers in the light. Shadows shift with the passage of time, creating new perspectives each hour.

Unexpected topography on an otherwise even plane, these frozen ripples are a masterpiece of nature, capturing the rush of water crashing ashore, a fleeting moment… until tides rise again.
