This weekend, I invited a friend to join me on a drive out to Seaside. For movie trivia buffs, Seaside is the actual cottage community in Northwest Gulf Coast Florida where “The Truman Show” was filmed. It really does look like a movie backdrop.
Our intention was to hike around Grayton Beach, then check out the shops at Seaside. When I checked on holiday events that we might enjoy, I was thrilled to find out that a weekly Farmer’s Market was still scheduled. During a recent road trip to Seaside with my Mr., I saw posters about the Market, but thought this late into fall, it was over. Just the opposite! The market continues every Saturday through May. Fresh produce all winter for the win.
While visiting the various kiosks, we found out that several of the organic farmers were locals and made a circuit during the week closer to home. Looks like I have a standing Wednesday chick date with my friend to go to a Green Market in Fort Walton Beach. Booyah!
Anyway… I was too excited about my fresh veggies to get any pix at the market, but I did snap a few as we walked around town.
(Check out the dark blue cottage, and its matching birdhouse)

I always wondered where that movie was filmed. Thanks for taking us there. It’s a lovely spot.
Be well, Tara.

I don’t think the town has changed much since the film was released. It’s very quite and very well-maintained. Having the Gulf of Mexico across the street doesn’t hurt either.

I have always wanted a house with a porch. They are rare in the UK… but maybe one day when I move to US I can have one

The porches on some of these houses were glorious. Multiple porches, balconies, wrap-arounds, all so wonderful for sitting out in the evenings and sipping mint juleps.

so did they build a set around the town or just use it all together?

The community was already there, and the movie was filmed around the existing cottages. There’s even a school and church.

Great pics, terrific movie (I think it’s the one where Jim Carrey describes himself as “the Tom Hanks of the Golden Globes” during his acceptance speech!) I would love to visit, one day.
