When I was a child I took a tattered baby blanket and spread it out on my bed. On top, I placed my favorite stuffed toy, some picture books, and a plastic bag of Goldfish crackers.
Pulling up the four corners, I tied the bundle into a knot, threw my makeshift hobo bag over my bony shoulder, and loudly announced that I was running away from home, never to return. Never meaning, “by dinner.”
Today, that blanket is a photographer’s backpack. My prized possessions are a camera, lenses and rechargeable batteries. I’m not running away, I’m taking a road trip.

The 100 Word Challenge, a writing prompt created by Velvet Verbosity, takes a single theme to tell a story in only 100 words ~ no more, no less. This week’s theme is ‘Road trip.’

I loved this! I want to pack up my goldfish and go on a road trip!

I ran away once a week when I was younger. I made it to the end of my road then went home again. What a great memory, thanks!

Soon to be ex ran away from home when he was, like, 4 or something. He got on his big wheel and announced to his mother, “I GO DONDALS!” (McDonald’s) This reminded me of that, and made me smile. So thanks 🙂

Brilliant! You put it all into those 100, and brought me back to my own memories.
Well done, and thanks for sharing this!

Lately, I feel like running away from home, not becuase I hate it there, but I yearn for an adventure…of course, I’d be back tomorrow 😉
I didn’t run away as a child, I was always such a good girl, didn’t want to worry my parents or make them angry on purpose, but my sister. My high spirited baby sister Dana, well she was a master of running away. Her heavy white suitcase, her defiant attitude, the slam of the screen door in our kitchen assuring us that she was GOING!
when she was very little…she normally ran away with her Easter Bonnet on and often naked. True story, you can ask my mom or Dana herself. She loved to be naked and she loved that bonnet.
*sigh* if only running away wasn’t frowned upon. Maybe I write to do it…hnmmm?? 🙂

Oh yeah. Heh, remember the first time I ran away. Parents are SO unfair. It started raining on me when I was huffing up the road so I came back long before dinner.
Love the beach shot. Gorgeous!
