A brighter place

Except for taking some time off while pondering whether I wanted to continue my writing and photography, this week marks my fourth full year of blogging. While this particular site only began back in December of this year, I once had another blog that started in mid-July, 2007 ~ which is currently sitting in limbo until I decide what to do with it.

There are a few of my old posts that I want to keep, a few that I’ve republished here, and others that I’m embarrassed to have written. I once went through these older posts, editing out stock images, and they unexpectedly showed up as new entries in Feed Readers. One friend thought I’d been hacked. My writing style has matured to say the least.

The old site started out as an off-shoot of my job, but eventually it was turned over to me as a personal blog. It had no real focus, but toward the end, it was used to mainly chronicle some very dark feelings. I ranted, whined, complained and was soon swallowed up in a ‘woe is me’ mentality.

I didn’t like it. Simply opening the admin page would depress me. So, I left it. Turned off the light and locked the door.

Then I came here ~ where I can share my photos, stretch my creative writing skills, tell a few personal stories  ~ and simply relax. I wanted this space to be much brighter and hopeful than my last place. I wanted a safe place away from the drama, and sadness in my life. I think I’ve accomplished that.

If you take some time to look around, maybe read a little, gaze at a photo or two, I hope you find it to be a comforting place too. Come back anytime, I’ll leave a light on.

  1. Wow, four and half years! Very nice, Tara. I know I experienced a LOT in this first 10 months, I can only imagine what things will look like in another three or four years!

I agree with a lot of what you said here, especially about getting consumed and needing a focus point on your blog. It is very easy to rant and rave, and it’s a slippery slope. Once you start, you lose traction immediately, often never to regain hold.

I’m glad you found your “happy place” here. We’ll do our best at Story Dam to help you keep it creative and interesting!

  2. I really want my blog to be positive too, but admittedly on some days it’s a struggle. Nice to have found you. I’ve discovered you through the Story Dam link up, in case that wasn’t obvious, but I look forward to coming back.

  3. I like this blog. And I have to say that I’m jealous– I have picked up and started “new” 3 different times and each space still doesn’t seem as lovely as my first space. I miss that space but I just needed to let it go. This blogging thing is for the birds– I find myself growing farther and farther from it, but I still miss it and feel it in my veins. Weird, huh? I love what you have done with this space, it really is YOU. xo

  4. I love your new space, but have to say, Tara R., that I sometimes miss If Mom Says…you’ve come a long way, baby! Congrats on the anniversary. Hope to be reading you 5, 10, 20 years down the proverbial road.
