Something’s a little off…

When I head out on my weekly photo hikes, until I decide where I’m headed, I have no idea what I want to take photos of that day. Sometimes I just start driving and make it up as I go. Once I have a destination in mind, I can begin making my mental ‘to-do’ list of what photos I hope to get that day. Then there are days when I still have no idea what I’m looking for and don’t know until I download the photos from my camera.

I’ve also been taking more ‘maybe’ shots. Those photos opps that make you stop, take a second look, and think, ‘I don’t know if that will be a good photo.’ Many times those off-hand shots turn out to be my favorites of a set or show something I initially missed, and proves to me that when in doubt, just take the photo.

My ‘maybe’ shots for the week:

With flash - auto setting

The photos above and below were taken at Fort Barrancas aboard Naval Air Station Pensacola. The first shot was taken with a flash, something I typically don’t do. I like the detail on the bricks I can capture without a flash. These interior passages are whitewashed, so the flash seems to ricochet off the walls and doesn’t illuminate the whole length of the passageway. Without a flash, there is enough ambient light from the gunports to create an almost eerie image, sometimes casting rainbows on the walls. Still, I like how the flash shot turned out, even if it was unintentional.
