Cats live here

August 22, 2011January 6, 2015 ~ Tara R. ~ 14 Comments

We are a family with cats. There is the alpha female Po and the demon male Scruffy. (It's important to point out that Po's full name is Pollo del Fuego - roughly translated as 'Chicken of the Fire.' She is a calico Manx. Scruffy is black and fluffy, and we're not sure what he is.) … Continue reading Cats live here

Rest in peace, Maxx

July 29, 2011January 6, 2015 ~ Tara R. ~ 26 Comments

Rest in peace, good and true friend... Last night we said good-bye to a cherished member of our family. Our Maxx, a black Lab, succumbed to lymphoma. She was 15 years old. This was a difficult decision for us to make, but it was also the kindest one. We could no longer allow her to … Continue reading Rest in peace, Maxx

I need a wife…

July 13, 2011January 6, 2015 ~ Tara R. ~ 29 Comments

I am a stay-at-home mom... my third time around in that role. Unlike the first couple of times ~ a year after the birth of my daughter, and 12 years after the birth of my son ~ this time wasn't voluntary. I went back to working in an office when my kids were teens, and … Continue reading I need a wife…

This is Maxx, not Maxine, not Max, just Maxx. We had the name (think ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’), before we had the dog. Maxx is our alpha female. She is pushing 15, which for a Labrador is OLD. She’s actually a Lab/Chow mix, with more of a chow head shape and coarse coat. True story: when … Continue reading Maxx: alpha dog

April Fools: Doxie Duty

April 1, 2011January 6, 2015 ~ Tara R. ~ 15 Comments

One particular afternoon, my brother and I ~ ages around 7 and 6 ~ were in the living room watching TV when we heard our dad yelling from somewhere near the front of the house. “Who’s supposed to clean up after these damn dogs?” My brother and I to this day have never learned to work together well. … Continue reading April Fools: Doxie Duty

Haiku Friday – Guardians

March 18, 2011January 8, 2015 ~ Tara R. ~ 11 Comments

Ever vigilant Ridding the world of vermin One squirrel at a time Haiku Friday is hosted by Lou at LouCeeL. *Our Girls, Labrador-Chow mixes Maxx (age 14) and Hershey (5), guard our backyard against those bushy-tailed rats. They've never caught a single squirrel; probably wouldn't know what to do with it if they did. Maxx, … Continue reading Haiku Friday – Guardians
