It must be spring… my songbirds are back.
I recently rehung all my bird feeders and hummingbird jars, and my little feathered friends have returned.
There are goldfinches, purple finches, wrens, chickadees, titmouses (titmice?), a pair of cardinals, and some I have no name for.
Yesterday, I set out a few flowering plants in the hopes of attracting hummers and honey bees.
The Cat Sisters are enthralled with the birds and will sit at the window and sliding glass doors for hours watching and chittering at them.
The squirrels are raiding the feeders so I have to shoo them off. Asta, unlike her late Sister, Hershey, can’t be bothered to be the Guardian of the Feeders and scare off those rat bastard vermin.
She will run after the Blue Jays so I can’t be too annoyed with her.
Now that the days are comfortable (temperature-wise) enough, I need to put my outdoor chairs on the patio so I can watch the flight show.
When the birds return is my favorite harbinger of spring.
“Be grateful for luck. Pay the thunder no mind – listen to the birds. And don’t hate nobody.” ~ Eubie Blake

Bird

I went a little bit dark this week, as I am wont to do … with https://katybrandes.wordpress.com/2019/04/02/karmas-cut/.

The season is beginning to change
It’s in the air
Ace of hearts look remarkable this time of year
Red birds dancing across the sky
Is poetic to a dreamer who visualizes fairytales with happy endings
Looking out the window I see birds playing in a puddle left by a light shower
Reminiscing on the innocence of love
Capturing each moment as if it’s the first time done
Birds are remarkable at making us believe the impossibilities of the world
Look there’s another one a blue bird just nested itself above
I guess winter is over and Spring has begun

I can sit and watch the birds for hours. They are little miracles of flight.

I’ve been doing the same thing for the last week or so, Tara. The wild bird seed brings them to our deck but the neighbor’s cat and our three watching from the door tend to scare them away. And our silly geriatric dog is deaf and has cataracts so he doesn’t even see the wild deer in the backyard, much less the squirrels.
Does our fascination with the process mean we’ve gone from just being crazy cat ladies to cray-cray “cat/bird” ladies?

I don’t think we cross that line into cray-cray until we begin naming the birds and squirrels.

Are you referring to Fred and Wilma? 🙂
