I’ve had my current smartphone for about two years, and in all that time, I haven’t changed my voice mail greeting. It was all very generic… I can’t take your call now, please leave… blah, blah, blah.
If I could, I would sample Sheryl Crow’s song, “A Change Would Do You Good,” – “If you’d like to reach me, leave me alone.”
Even though, I don’t particularly like talking on the phone, I never thought I would say that I prefer texting. It seems that the older I get the more introverted I become, or I really am turning into the curmudgeonly neighborhood Cat Lady. (Get off my line!)
Last week I finally recorded a new greeting. The first caller to leave a voice message happened to be my daughter. Her first words were, “I don’t know if I should be offended by the new voice message or if I love it, I can’t decide.”
I’ll let you be the judge:
“Sorry, I missed you, I’m either screening my calls or can’t find my phone, leave your name, number and a short message and I’ll get back to you. If you want a quicker response, just text me.”
I will screen my calls, and if I don’t want to talk to anyone, I won’t answer. If the caller ID is not someone I recognize, and I can’t find out who called with a reverse look up, I’ll block the call. I have more blocked numbers on my phone, than on my contact list.
Besides, I like having voice messages and texts so I can replay them over and over, reading into each word a different nuance and cryptic meaning.
“Remember that as a teenager you are at the last stage of your life when you will be happy to hear that the phone is for you.” ~ Fran Lebowitz
This week’s word is:
Grouch
What to do:
Using “grouch” for inspiration, write 100 Words – 100 exactly – no more, no less. You can either use the word – or any form of the word – as one of your 100, or it can be implied. Include a link in your post back here, and add your story to the Mister Linky list. If you don’t have a blog, you can leave your submission in the comment section, or as a Facebook status post. Remember to keep spreading the love with supportive comments for your fellow Wordsters.
I went in a different direction than I normally do this week. I hope it’s as enjoyable.
