There is a regional airport about 10 miles from where I live. It’s attached to Eglin Air Force Base near Fort Walton Beach, FL. Eglin AFB is one of the largest military installations in the U.S., covering 724 square miles of land ranges, and extending out 86,500 square miles over water ranges.

As at many military bases, there are gate guardians at various entrances to the reservation, including the public airport. An F15 Eagle stands vigil at the terminal, an imposing figure as visitors arrive and depart.

I’m grateful for:

1. U.S. military servicemen and women
2. The freedoms I have because of their sacrifices
3. Kickass fighter jets
4. The sound of those jets flying over my house, and what that represents
