The very heavens are laughing at me. That Cheshire Cat smile belies its malicious intent. The stars have been out of alignment for ages, and Luna’s phases can’t be trusted. These wretched trials are willful, and not some tragic happenstance.
If Karma is to blame, I must have been a real bitch in a previous life. If only there was a way to excavate ancient memories in search of artifacts to analyze. I would happily dig up the ruins of my primitive history to discover which of my evil deeds are now coming back to curse me and mine.
Until such time, the constellations will conspire to guide me. Their light a beacon to my future, Luna’s countenance a portent of fair or foul fortune. Unless they remain duplicitous, and feign regret for casting troubles on me. Their mischievous ways set a relentless course of misdirection and misery.
All I can hope for is a total eclipse, the dark mantle of blackest night sheltering me from further cosmic retribution.

Lots of juicy words here. Happenstance and duplicitous are two of my favorites. And somehow it puts an interesting spin on the idea of reincarnation and the wish to be able to look back.

Love that moon. Love this line: “I would happily dig up the ruins of my primitive history to discover which of my evil deeds are now coming back to curse me and mine.”
I’ve definitely had those moments.

I loved the language, the way you used the moon and its phases to tell the story.
Such beauty in your words.
