In a place of exquisite, raw beauty there are tale-tell signs of human intrusion.
Where rainwater pools, reflecting the greens and golds of towering pines, a greasy oil slick fractures and swirls. Its rainbow pigment garish and rude in its attempt to grab hikers’ attention. Metallic hues meant for cloisonné hummingbirds and iridescent beetles are glaringly out of place in peaceful woodland brooks.
Unsuspecting wildlife, innocently seeking a cooling drink, are corrupted by this skulking contaminant. Clinging to their legs and fur, and seeping skin deep, the poison is insidious.
It is an alien blight. One we cannot eradicate.

where humanity and environment don’t play well together..and what’s worse, the picture they create is deceptive and in so many ways, beautiful.
the rainbow in the oil slick, the lie on the tongue of a handsome/beautiful face, the rot under the green of the leaves. Sigh. Your words brought all of that to the surface, as easily as the rainbow surfaced in the grease.

It looks like a peacock. I love this piece – to think that WE are the aliens that caused this intrusion into the natural order of things.

Looking at the oil pattern, it looks like a horse with a multi coloured mane lying down.
Such a shame that something of such strange beauty can be so deadly to our wildlife.
