Threshold

doorway to abandoned home

I remember the day you carried me over that threshold. You held my heart in your hands, my love and my dreams.

We promised in sickness and in health. The sickness came so hard and quick.

The rains stopped falling and the earth blew away, taking all our hopes along with it. The desolation seeped into your soul, and your spirit dried up like so many acres of farmland.

I tried to make our home an oasis for you in this desert. I just couldn’t hold back the inevitable. Our love, desiccated from lack of attention, blew away too.

We promised ’til death do us part. Hope is gone and will never cross our threshold again.

  1. This is brilliant, like all the other comments your writing ability is sublime! – I would love if you could read a short story I have written it’s about two lovers, it’s short but it would mean a great deal from a writer such as yourself.
