We are family

Blood is thicker than water, but ink is thicker than blood.

Over the years, I have gathered a tribe, formed my own family of brothers and sisters. We have a shared love of words, passing around quips and phrases like well-loved heirlooms.

Spread out to the four corners of the world, we are as close as a keyboard. Crossing time and distance, as if by magic.

A day does not pass without reaching out to one of my scribe siblings, giving or receiving encouragement and support. They understand my manic need to write, to express the stories rambling through my head. In turn, they know, they can come to me with their words, and I’ll appreciate the worlds they created.

It is the best of what “family” means. We support, encourage, counsel, tease, coach, critique and commiserate with each other. We don’t look alike, but we think alike.

  1. This is the life we’ve chosen, writers, bonded by words, strengthened by like-minded “midnight disease, and tied by encouragement. I’m glad you feel the same as I. We are family.
