
He said it was a security precaution. A peephole would let me see who was at the door, and I could keep out the sketchy, unsavory people. I tried not to laugh, thinking about a peephole in a junker car. He was so serious. Saying just because we lived in a car, didn’t mean we couldn’t be safe.
What he didn’t tell me was that he was the boogie man, he was the monster I needed to escape.
If he’d’ve put the peephole in just a few inches to the right, I wouldn’t’ve had to worry about anything any more.

it’s such a bone chilling moment when you realize that you just don’t know a person at all. You never did.
The suspense and the last line were spot on.

I liked it, though I found the second paragraph a little on-the-nose. We’re going to come to that conclusion organically after the last para if it’s fleshed-out.
