I thought opting out of tedious TSA lines, crying babies and the assault on my nose from unkempt bodies, would save both money and my sanity.
I didn’t factor in that every other traveler might have the same plan. Half a city of fellow motorists jammed the interstate, all of us seemingly headed toward the same destination.
Tempers and temperatures flared, and cars inched forward at a drunken snail’s pace. I could see my fuel gauge falling by the minute, and I was already an hour late.
While sitting in my sweltering car, my usual puddle-jumper mockingly flew overhead.
The 100 Word Challenge, a writing prompt created by Velvet Verbosity, takes a single theme to tell a story in exactly 100 words. This week’s theme is ‘Flew.’

“Tempers and temperatures flared” — what a great line! Can definitely relate to your frustration here. 🙂

I’m in the car so much, I thought you swiped one of my notebooks.
I like the line about drunken snail’s pace and of course the puddle jumper one. super 100, Tar Rah

Hence, “it’s the journey, not the destination”. But seriously, how RUDE of that puddle-jumper, eh?

Ouch. You capture the business dilemma so well. The flight lines may be long, but sometimes, they are entirely worth it.

You just can’t win, can you? Still, avoiding the indignities of air travel almost makes it worth it.
