We speak the same language
Yet you don’t understand
A single word I say
We read the same books
Quote our favorite movies
But have nothing in common
We share a God
A compatible sense of right and wrong
Though we can never agree
Your body fits perfectly
Around mine
You say you’ve outgrown me
We move in the same direction
Along a mutual path
Only you can’t find your way to me
We were a perfect match
We were made for each other
Have we ever actually met
A lover’s whisper in the dark
Separates us
An unconquerable chasm
The 100 Word Challenge, a writing prompt created by Velvet Verbosity, takes a single theme to tell a story in only 100 words ~ no more, no less. This week’s theme is ‘Chasm.’
Tara, I held my breath all the way through to the end. Perfection! I love, love, LOVE when poetry shines.
I envy the words – thank you for giving them life.

I think everyone has already said what I might say, but you did a magnificent job of capturing the “unconquerable chasm”.

Do you know the song Creep by Radiohead? Your poem struck the same cord.
Delivered brilliantly.

I love this and I hate this. I love the message and the way you’ve put it but I hate that this really does happen. It’s scary to think you’ve found the one and then realize, no matter how right it seems, it just won’t work.
Kudos, this entry was perfect.

How many times I’ve heard this story. How many times I’ve seen perfectly good relationships die on the rocks of acquired indifference. How many times …

Oh that gave me shivers. Just tell me it’s fiction so much as fiction can possibly be. I love this but at the same time hate it because there are too many people feeling that pain and loneliness.
