I have a lot of macro shots this week, something I very much enjoy. I love getting in crazy close to an image. You can see things when magnified, that you overlook otherwise. It also means I can get close to wildlife, without actually getting that close. Jack Hannah I am not.
I’m going to give away one of my photography secrets… I do use my 55-200mm lens… a lot… but, more useful to me is shooting in JPEG Fine at 3872×2592 pixel resolution. I have shot in RAW a few times, but that takes up a lot of space on my media card.
My photos? They are huge! So cropping them doesn’t necessarily mean a loss of image clarity. The biggest problem I have is focusing on the right spot so that most of the image I want to use is clear. I often turn off the auto focus to get exactly what I want, where I want.
There you have it… my photography cheat for the week.
(Photos shot with a Nikon D60, using an 18-55mm, 55-200mm, 20mm f/2.8 wide-angle, or 50mm f/1.8 prime lens and/or a Nikon CoolPix S205)

I’ve always been fascinated with chain-link fences. Funny, but Mr. Fairway hates the things. I grew up in the Southwest, where wooden fences were a no-no because of the bugs. Mr. F. equates chain-link with no-account folks. Go figure. These are all beautiful. Bravo!
I love that mushroom, the details are great!
Camera Envy!!! Those shots are gorgeous 🙂
New lenses are on my wishlist. I’ve been playing with manual focus for about a year and have really improved several of my shots as a result. The feather is incredible.
I’m so loving the first and third shot! fantastic job on all of them!
Those macro shots are incredible!!! And THANK YOU for the tips! I’m learning all the time and soak up such suggestions like a sponge.

beautiful set this week! 🙂
I really, really love the fence shot. I wish I understood how my camera works, so that I could know what the heck I’m doing with it. Wish I had a Personal Camera Assistant!haha
I love macro! These are really amazing shots.
I spent the afternoon today at the park taking close up shots. I love all the hidden details you can find in the woods. Lovely set! I especially love the vine wrapped around the fence.
