100 Word Challenge: Klutz

In an effort to get the “bad” stuff out of the way first, I began Jan. 1, 2018 face-down in my driveway.

Let me elucidate.

I live in Florida, which by all accounts, is a sub-tropical, warm-weather state. Last winter, I didn’t even bring my heavy coat out of storage. I managed any cool days with a light jacket, if even that.

This winter threw me a curve ball. Last week daytime temperatures hovered in the low- to mid-70°s (that’s 20s for the Celsius crowd). Mother Nature apparently wanted to make a dramatic entrance for the new year and plunged temps into the 30s and even 20s. (that’s dropping into the negative range for Cs.)

I don’t even have sweaters unpacked from storage, let alone coats. I actually had to fire up my furnace. The indoor temp at my house was 59° one morning. Inconceivable!

As any good gardening person knows, freezing temperatures are a death knell for plants. New Year’s night, with forecasts calling for lows of 28°, meant bringing in all my plants. The Mister and I started hauling pots into the garage.

With only a couple of plants remaining to rescue, I tripped. Not sure on what, but I fell like a Giant Redwood and with about as much grace.

Luckily, I did not break my glasses (only scratched the frames and one lens), but did end up with some impressive cuts and scrapes on my nose and forehead, and a busted lip. I bruised a knee and my pride.

Luckily for my MIster he did not laugh.

I only lost one basil plant, and my dignity, to the cold.

It can only get better from here… right?

“I suppose I am one of life’s naturally clumsy people; I don’t drop stuff all the time, or break things, but I’m just generally a bit flustered.” Karen Gillan

This week’s word is:

Klutz

What to do:

Using “klutz” for inspiration, write 100 Words – 100 exactly – no more, no less. You can either use the word – or any form of the word – as one of your 100, or it can be implied. Include a link in your post back here, and add your story to the Mister Linky list. If you don’t have a blog, you can leave your submission in the comment section, or as a Facebook status post. Remember to keep spreading the love with supportive comments for your fellow Wordsters.

    1. Apparently it was snowing in Tallahassee this week! That’s only a couple hours east of me. That’s crazy.(I’m fine, just a bit flustered by my clumsiness.)
